Ramadan is a month of mercy.

It is the month when our hearts feel softer, when we slow down and reflect on our blessings, and when we remember that everything we have is a gift from Allah. But in Burao, many children begin and end this month without parents to turn to.

At Al-Tawheed Orphan Charity, we work with orphaned children in Burao who have already faced more hardship than most of us can imagine. For them, Ramadan is not simply about fasting. It is about survival. It is about whether there will be food to break their fast. It is about whether they will feel remembered.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, “I and the one who sponsors an orphan will be like this in Paradise,” and he held his two fingers together.

We are pleased to share that we have achieved our aim of building a school for the orphans under our care. Thank you all for your kind donations and thank you to Qatar Charity for helping us to make this school a reality. Before we can officially open the school, we still need your help to raise funds for the the following:

• to build a road to the school as it is located in a remote area
• to install a water filtration system as the water is not currently drinkable 
• to install solar panel systems to generate electricity 
• to purchase school buses 
• to hire school staff

As the new year begins we are happy to share that we have completed the first phase of our project and have built a school with an adjoining mosque. Now that this first phase of our project is complete, we are moving on to the second phase. This second phase involves raising funds to enable to us to fully equip the school and to also hire staff. We would immensely appreciate any help that we can get to complete this second phase of our school project.

We start 2021 with the exciting news that we have started to build a school and mosque for the orphans under our care. It has taken a lot of hard work to get to this point and we are thankful to all the amazing people who have helped us along the way. We look forward to sharing further updates with you throughout the year.

By the will of Allah and the incredible generosity of our donors, we have been able to reach many milestones this year. One of these milestones is the digging of wells for the orphans. ​

The building in which we educate our orphans has been damaged by heavy rainfall. The roof is no longer functional  and the ceilings are leaking. The leakage has also damaged the flooring. The building consists of a mosque and an educational centre.

We require your urgent help. Please help us so that we can repair the damage. Without this building, the orphans have nowhere to go! In addition to schooling, the building is where we register orphans and where we distribute your donations to them. It is the heart of our charity. 

We have been informed that repairs of the building will cost £12,000. Please donate so that we can repair this vital building and continue to educate and support the needy orphans under our care. Thank you!
